Learning Program

At Our Lady of Sion College we are passionate about and committed towards providing a curriculum which allows each young woman to achieve success. We provide a rigorous learning environment and support for the students as they work towards meeting their goals. The staff at the College are professional and committed to helping the students learn.

Our Year 7 to Year 10 Curriculum is designed around the VELS and Australian Curriculum and incorporates the discipline based Domains as well as the interdisciplinary Domains. Students in Year 11 and Year 12 have the option of completing VCE or VCAL. As part of our commitment to providing different pathways for the students, students may study a VET subject through the Mullum Cluster, Inner Melbourne Cluster or at Box Hill Institute.

The College learning and teaching program highlights important values and allows students to engage in the world beyond our community, allowing for them to develop into people who will engage in the world around them and be people of vision and support for others.

The students are provided with contemporary learning experiences. The College has interactive whiteboards and modern learning spaces with access to ICT.

The Learning Resource Centre supports the students with material in the library as well as many online resources. The Careers and Pathways Coordinator assists the students with subject choices and career counselling. We believe it is important to teach the students the skills to be successful in their endeavours post school. The College has a study skills program which runs across Year 7 to Year 12. We also actively promote the 'Habits of Mind' which are based on international research by Arthur Costa and Bena Kallick into the dispositions of successful people.

Student achievement is monitored and celebrated at Our Lady of Sion College. Online reporting on the College intranet, Edumate, allows students and parents to see live and up to date results via the internet. Our unique online reporting system also allows staff to track progress and in turn implement the College Achievement Policy. As part of the affirmation process, Academic Awards and Academic Colours are presented to students who achieve academic excellence. Students do achieve excellent results at Our Lady of Sion College.
