Refugee Week

18 June 2014 | General Interest

As part of our celebration of Refugee Week, Sr. Mary Barbuto, NDS, came and spoke with students about her work with refugees in the Melbourne community.

It was wonderful to see so many students come along to learn more about what is being done to support refugees both in detention and in the community.

Sr. Mary spoke about the challenges faced by refugees, as well as the work that volunteers do, and also ways that we can support refugees.

One of the key ways that we can do this is to consider the power of language and make a conscious effort to speak of refugees positively; to help others understand that what we are talking about is people, not problems, all of us equal in the eyes of God.
