Parents' Association

our school - parents association

The Our Lady of Sion College Parents Association is: "A community of parents to support the school community. Together we prepare students to be ready for the world"

We do this by:

  • Attending events and engaging with the network of parents
  • Volunteering for school organised events
  • Being a sounding board for school leaders

How can I be involved in the Parents' Association?
When your daughter joins the school you become a member of the Parents' Association, you can then offer to be a volunteer and/or nominate onto the committee.

Why should we all be members of the Parents' Association?
When we (as parents) become more involved in the school community then our children are more successful.

Why do we pay a Parents' Association levy?
This allows the Parents' Association to focus on developing a community of parents rather than "pestering" each other to "fund raise". Rather than spending time fund raising we believe it is better for parents to attend events at the school, connect with other parents and participate in their daughter's development.

What do I have to do as a member of the association?
The most important thing all members can do is to be a part of a community of parents supporting the school community. You simply do this by attending school events and connecting with other parents.

What if I want to be more involved?
Another easy way to be involved is to contribute to a forum with the school leaders. These happen about once a term and are an informal opportunity to hear from the school about what is happening and to discuss your thoughts on your daughter's education.

You can also ask to be a part of the Parents' Association Volunteers. As a part of this group you will have the chance to "answer the call". The jobs are generally easy - like help us cook a sausage on the open day - and require a small, focused commitment of time.

You could also nominate to be on the Parents' Association Committee, a small group of people who meet regularly throughout the year to support the business of the Parents' Association. For example, the committee is responsible for co-ordinating the volunteer efforts.

These are easy ways to participate in your school community where you can choose the level of time you commit. And you can be assured that your contribution delivers great benefits to your daughter's development.
